I feel the location is particularly significant... Hm, if only I could explain why! BUT

1. The stone is near to the confluence of the Yscir (aka Ysgir) and the Wysg (aka the Usk), a major river of South Wales (rising not far from the source of the Tawe, another major river of South Wales).

2. This stone is almost surrounded by visible and nearby (hill)forts (and / or defended enclosures), including
i. Y Crug to the east,
ii. the fort at Coed Fenni Fach to the south east, and
iii. Y Gaer the the south west.

Since my visit I have noticed nearby, but probably not visible from the stone,
iv. Twyn y Gaer to the west and
v. a fort up the Yscir at Coren y Fan and
vi. another Twyn y Gaer 4.1mls to the north east.

Then it's small wonder perhaps that the Romans built their fort, Cicucium (aka Y Gaer), nearby.

On the images on the coflein page surely the picture with the figure next to it isn't this stone?

I wondered if this could maybe be the fennifach stone which is really hard to get to atm? Going to try and photograph both stones as soon as I get a chance..
