Craigmakerran submitted by hamish : Go to this site after Blackfaulds, but go there by the main road. The lane from Blackfaulds farm is not for the faint hearted. The stones are at the end of an arm of Blairmuir woods and are just inside the fence. There are lots of stones in the area but only two big ones. I can't find my picture of the other one. Here is a Streetview image which shows both stones (although Google claims that this is actually "10 Old Church Road"!?!) -

Correct grid reference for this site is NO 1477 3286 (per RCAHMS and OS map). [Updated]

Re: Craigmakerran by Anonymous on Monday, 21 November 2005
i come from the close by village of Wolfhill. The site is probably better named "Loanhead" as this is the name of the nearest farm owned by the Fenton family who own all the land around. Craigmakerran is actually the name of the large house situated on the cliff down the road. I often walk past the stones, such a shame to see them hidden in the trees with very poor access. i think the site should get more recognition as they are situated on a farm back road and many people are unaware of there presence. Thanks for posting them on your website!

RCAHMS lists this site under one name, Loanhead, perhaps this should be the main listing on The Portal too?

I would agree that these stones are rather ignored but as long as they are on the OS map, accessible by car and fenced-off, there is no danger of them being lost or removed. According to a note from Mr M King (Perth Museum), "this monument has been signposted and prepared for public access as part of the South-east Perthshire Stone Circle Trail, administered under the CSA Adopt-a-monument scheme by the Archaeological Section of the Perthshire Society for Natural Science". But according to the view on Google Streetview, the signpost is also in danger of disappearing in the foliage! Take a look here.
