Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Devon.
On the B3181 north of Budlake take the lane leading to Lower Comberoy Farm. About a quarter of a mile down the lane, on the south side, is a wooden gate opening into a small untended wood.

There is no path but if one slithers to the bottom of a small slope and turns around, there waiting for them is a real gem.

Holy Well (Broadclyst) submitted by devonsucculent : Love this place muddy to get to but worth it . this time of year January there's no brambles. Its so well made and weirdly in the middle of nowhere. Now has a decorative glass door which makes it hard to see inside . (Vote or comment on this photo)

Re: Holy Well (Broadclyst) by Anonymous on Friday, 23 April 2021
Do you know why the national trust do not own this well, they were given the land at Broadclyst in the 1940s and the family retained some. I lived in a national trust property in the heart of the village, with a well built over in the kitchen. A well at Hillhead was found and covered up by the owners in the 1990 inside the house.

The well belongs to the National Trust and the spring supplies the houses nearby

The Holy Well at Broadclyst would seem to have attracted the attention of a water company. There is now a metre-high padlocked wooden gate set in a stout 20-yard wooden fence - easily climbed over though.
There are padlocked manhole covers indicating some pipework of a few years beneath but the well and its stone facade are untouched and it seems to be flowing 'well' (apologies!).
A short 'layby' of sorts is 50 yards along the lane for car parking and a picnic, overlooking pleasant farming land.
A more adventurous location, very muddy after rain, but worth it for the seclusion.
