Re: Kings Castle by Anonymous on Tuesday, 31 December 2013
I visited this site recently and found it to be in reasonably good condition.

I parked near the Manor Garage (shown in one of the accompanying pictures here) and walked the lane behind it, which passes over a bridge that spans what used to be the Great Western Railway and up in to the wooded hill.

The upper ramparts are still quite obvious on the south side with a clear bank and ditch pattern, and access to the top enclosure is still accessible via the original entrance path.

The enclosure itself was mowed and well maintained but has been ploughed at some point, so the ground is flat and there is little surface evidence of the settlement it once contained.

All in all, a nice walk for a summer afternoon with lovely views across the vale, but there are better preserved hillforts in Somerset.
