Are these the stones from a stone circle that was reported by S Cowan in 1904 in a book on Perthshire? RCAHMS (Historic Environment Scotland) think it doesn't exist. See the photos and comments on our page for more.

Suspecting that the stones that once comprised Kilspindie Stone Circle had been cleared from the field at some point, John Lamont of Inchture visited the site at 56.419581,-3.28219 (NO 21002600) and in searching the area found a pile of stones at 56.420080, -3.280133 (NO 21128 26053) that had clearly been moved from the original site about 300' to the N NE and dumped down a slope.

Hello Peigi, thanks, the location we had of NO 2100 2600 (or NO 21 26) just meany 'somewhere in that 1km square'. However the report on Canmore says
"There is a stone circle about a mile south of Craig Greine" (square NO 21 28).
    S Cowan 1904
RCAHMS didn't find it on the occasions they visited.

The other report of stones in this area is at NO175248, by Nick Brand on TMA
They have two listings at the same location
    https://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/4987/kilspindie.html
    and
    https://www.themodernantiquarian.com/site/4987/kilspindie.html

I've updated the location to where John found the stones at NO 21128 26053
Do you know John, when did he visit?
    Intriguing!

Hi Andy, yes, I know John. We are both involved with the Scottish Redwood Trust! He went up to photograph this location, the Evelick Hillfort and Evelick Castle on January 23, 2021 and shared the photos for this site. He is from the area and has seen several stones in fields, along roadsides and railway tracks that were moved (possibly from stone circles) back when sites were less valued than they are today.
