Unfortunately, I fear that these are probably not barrows. My Uncle and I have been researching our local prehistoric monuments, and came across a record from an archaeological dig done in the early 1930's. Due to the amount of rubble found, and apparent lack of human disturbance, it's felt that these mounds are merely collections of rubble that gathered together there and was left behind during the last Ice Age, with the grassy tops coming over time, of course. It explains, for me, why such large "barrows" (compared to all the other, much smaller local barrows) are found in the bottom of the Kerry Valley, as opposed to the many others found on hillsides and hilltops, which has always struck me as quite unusual.
