Diamond Cottage
Diamond Cottage submitted by howar : view of earthwork from top of Unstan tomb (Vote or comment on this photo)
Promontory Fort in Orkney.
RCAHMS NMRS record no. HY21SE 22, near the Brig o' Waithe on the main Kirkwall-Stromness road, may possibly be a Norse land-take but the balance of evidence is against that.

The standard reading is that the earthworks are in connection with a promontory fort, but I feel that it may be as old a demarcation as the Dyke of Sean. As you approach from the road in front of it is the Unstan tomb, and several flints were found in the vicinity. The 'dyke' is most easily seen in a curving section a little to the east of the tomb, starting just outside the Historic Scotland fence and ening at the present lochside.
