Sidmouth Museum submitted by AngieLake : Another angle on the late Iron Age Holcombe Mirror, found hidden at the bottom of a pit. (I'm assuming this is the real thing and not a copy, as it has been kept in the British Museum). See link to more info on other photo of mirror. (Vote or comment on this photo)

This interesting museum on two floors is easily accessed just to the left of the Lych Gate of the local Parish Church.
[Note below, it is only open April - October.]

Quoting from the leaflet, it "celebrates 240 million years of history. Displays offer something for everyone, including those with an interest in the World Heritage Jurassic Coast, local history and archaeology."

The address is Hope Cottage, Church Street, Sidmouth. EX10 8LY.
Telephone: 01395 516139
Website: 222.sidvaleassociation.org.uk

When I visited in August 09, among the artefacts on display was the famous late Iron Age Holcombe Mirror, found not far away at Uplyme near Lyme Regis.

NB: Opening times on the leaflet are given for 2009:

4th April - 31st October

Monday: 1.00pm - 4.00pm
Tues - Sat: 10.00am - 4.00pm
Sunday: Closed
