Re: Lindores by Anonymous on Friday, 31 October 2008
For information-
This stone was uncovered in a roadside hedge during the 1950s by my great grandfather at the Grange of Lindores, while working as a forester on the local estate. It was removed to its current location then to help shelter it from the elements

Re: Lindores by Anonymous on Sunday, 11 May 2014
What is recorded is an inaccurate version of the report I made -

The stone was located in a roadside wall opposite the road-end where the road from Grange of Lindores meets the Cupar-Newburgh road just outside Lindores Village. The base and rear of the stone were submerged in earth. My Grandfather, Thomas Calley, who had formerly worked on Lindores estate and Mr Buchanan, Minister of Abdie Kirk with others dug out and transported the stone to its current location in the mort-house of Abdie Old Kirk, to protect it from further damage. Mr Buchanan left the parish in the late 1950s, so reports that the stone was moved in 1970 are erroneous.

This stone is now located in the mort-house just to the East of the entrance to Abdie Old Kirk. Both side are apparently carved but only one is visible without a couple of strong men to assist in moving/holding it.

The stone was previously re-used as a sundial and is defaced by markings associated with this and a surveyor's benchmark.
