Tretower
Tretower submitted by cerrig : Looking towards the Myarth hill, South West. (Vote or comment on this photo)
About half a mile up the A479 northwards from Tretower is what is marked on the OS map as "Standing Stone". The standing stone is about 8 feet high and has grooves and holes on its western face.

I drove past the area where the stone is marked slowly a couple of times, and could make out a large standing stone in one of the hedges which divides the fields to the west of the road. I could find no place in the vicinity to park, as the roadside consisted of thick hedges right up to the road on both sides. I would guess the stone is well over 2 metres high, but obviously couldn't be sure or get a photograph.

Tretower submitted by cerrig : This is a big beautiful stone. About 8 feet tall and 4 feet square. It's a lovely pale brown colour that matches the local soil, so I'm assuming it's a local stone. I didn't stay long because parking on the nearby road is a bit dodgey due to the traffic. (1 comment - Vote or comment on this photo)

Also known as 'The Cwmdu Stone', it stands in a hawthorn hedge by the side of the A479 Crickhowell to Talgarth road, about 1 mile east of Pen-y-Gaer Roman fort. The standing stone is about 8 feet high and has grooves and holes on its western face. On the 1967 OS map it is called 'Standing stone', but further back than that it is referred to as a "maenhir".
