Re: Gorsedd Circle (Bute Park) by Sula-May on Sunday, 04 September 2011

I was in Cardiff overnight the first weekend in August 2011 for the Mister Supernational Event (my son entered). I didn't want to leave without seeing a bit of Cardiff, so I set out on the Sunday, in the rain, with the intention to take the water bus (as though it wasn't wet enough) from Cardiff Bay (where I stayed) to the City Centre.

I took in some of the sites such as the Millenium Centre on my walk to the Bay. I wanted to visit the Castle and the Peace Temple mainly before heading to the train station. However, I noticed in the park where the water bus stopped, some curious looking stones, that I couldn't resist taking a closer look at. As I got closer to them, my suspicion was confirmed, it was indeed a stone circle. I couldn't believe my luck, to see a stone circle without knowing it was there and not even having to look for it.

I visit sacred sites independently and on tours (though, not as often as I'd like), so, as you can imagine this was a real find. The sites I've visited are located in quite remote areas or more semi/rural surroundings, whereas, this circle was located in a park. I found this pretty strange as the setting seemed out of character for a stone circle. My marvel at the stone circle soon replaced my astonishment and I set about intuitively working with the stone circle to attune it to the area, as it was not aligned.

As I was exiting the park I read the information about the stone circle; it was a commemorative modern stone circle for the National Eisteddfod held in Cardiff in 1978. The middle stone was taken from the original stone circle at Gorsedd Gardens, I later found out it is in front of the National Museum, but, it didn't want to be found.

Upon further research, the National Eisteddfod; a Welsh festival of art and culture, is usually held in a different area in North and South Wales alternate years. Wherever the Eisteddfod is held, a stone circle is built if there isn't one already in the area, which is used in the ceremony.

The Eisteddfod was established in 1861, so many modern stone circles would have been created throughout Wales as part of its tradition. The list of Eisteddfod venues from 1861 to 2015 can be found at: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Eisteddfod_of_Wales.

The Gorsedd Stone Circle was the highlight of my sightsee along with the animal sculpted castle wall. Though there are some stunning buildings such as the National Museum and the Law Courts, I couldn't see them properly due to a huge fairground in the square and me flagging.

My communication with the Gorsedd Stone Circle to write this has led to its attunement to Divine Love. It would be great to visit all the Eisteddfod modern stone circles for they are the new portals of the age; our legacy to heritage. I would like to create this some day as it would be a great way to tour Wales; my spiritual home. Who knows? We could do this together!
