I’ve been doing my family tree and I’m so far back to the 1700’s and it has bought me back to kinross. I wonder if it’s the castle of my ancestors

haven't been there, but the castle was inhabitted by my ancestors, (the mdrnE spelling that we use for our name is moncure) and i think the farthest we've traced it back is to Andrew moncure.... and we know that's before 1568.... but that's all we know.

My Father has traced our name back to a battle that happened near the castle site.......circa 724 A.D.

My wife is a Moncur. We have alwys wanted to figure out if the name preceeded the Nomans because of the similarity to the french Mon Couer" Do you have a history back to 724?
