Great Langdale
Great Langdale submitted by postman : The cup marked boulder. (Vote or comment on this photo)
Rock Art in Cumbria

Coming from Chapel stile pass by Copt Howe (or stop here as well) pass by the parking places for the Langdale pikes, pass the 90 degree left hand bend, and I parked next to cattle grid well to the side . Or maybe if you had more time than I did stop at the campsite very nearby.
Through two gates make for the trees beyond a dry stone wall. There is a gate through the wall into the small copse. The boulder is up the path to your right.. About four feet square-ish and the flat upper surface covered in maybe 25 cup marks. Some are now faint, but most are quite deep and curvey.
There would be fabulous views of the Langdale pikes but for the conifer plantation the stone sits in.

Great Langdale
Great Langdale submitted by Horatio : Well defined and deep cup marks on strangely just the one boulder when there are half a dozen similar ones around. Strange, I guess we will never know the significance of cupmarks , just why was so much time devoted to boring depressions in to rock surfaces. Whatever the reason, it must've been a good one as so time consuming to do this One of the best cupmarked stones I've seen. (Vote or comment on this photo)
