Chambered Tomb in Monmouthshire (Newport). WelshRockGoddess writes: "my very first visit to a Long Barrow. Suitably impressed!"

Access: Come off M4 at junction 28, at exit roundabout take the A48 straight ahead. At the next roundabout take the right to Cleppa estate, at the roundabout in the estate go straight ahead and you will see on the left a lane. Find somewhere here to park and follow the lane on foot. Just after you cross the motorway there is a gap in the fence on the left, cross the field and go past the trees and you will see the stones at the top of the hill.

Gwern y Cleppa submitted by Silurian : We visited the site, which as other photos show has been pretty well destroyed - However, in the very same field, about 100 yards away are what look like other undiscovered chambers, and also large holes around them. The various photos show these other 'possible chambers' from various angles as well as the 'holes' indents in the landscape near these 'chambers. I can't believe these haven't been de...

The remains of the burial chamber are positioned at the Eastern end of a long, low mound approximately 134 ft (41 m) long, orientated East-West. The chamber is composed of siliceous grey sandstone, with four ort...

Helpful directions from hamish, but things have changed slightly. Having left the complicated motorway junction roundabout it is best to turn right at the first set of traffic lights, which you reach almost immediately, go over the the roundabout in the estate and park as hamish says. Having then walked over the motorway continue on the lane until you reach the second gate on the left, which you may need to climb. Follow the remains of an old track along the field edge to another gate, from which you will see the monument. There are no longer any gaps in hedges and a lot of new barbed wire everywhere.
