Lodge Wood
Lodge Wood submitted by TauCeti : Site in Wales: Hillfort photo 3 (Vote or comment on this photo)
An Iron-Age hillfort on Lodge Hill near Caerleon that was occupied by the Silures, then by the Romans in the 1st century CE. At 120 metres above sea-level, the fort is protected by three ramparts 5m high and ditches up to 10m depth. The fort is 440m in length and 175m width.

The fort (Stronghold of Belin) has associations with the legendary King Belinus (Beli) son of Dyfnwal Moelmud, who is credited with founding the city of Bristol. An effigy of this legendary figure can be seen at St John's church in Broad Street, Bristol.

Lodge Wood
Lodge Wood submitted by TauCeti : Site in Wales: Some photos of an Iron Age hillofort, directly above Caerleon Roman city; probably the reason why the Roman legion was stationed there, but I don't know (1 comment - Vote or comment on this photo)

In the late 1970s through to the early 1980s, that was where I would go riding my bicycle with my friends. Good swoopy places to ride.

The fort has not, as yet, been excavated though signs of Dark Age activity could well be found here.
