Standing Stone which used to be called The Devil's Stone until a 19th Century (?) clergyman deemed to call it The Lord's Stone. A marking on the stone, in folklore is purported to have been the Devil's Footprint.

A standing stone, probable erratic boulder adjacent road on Lordstone Lane, along a north facing slope. Right next to a telegraph pole, and a little way down (north) from a junction signed Hope 1/2 and Bentlawnt 1 1/4, and a small postbox set in concrete.

The OS 1:25000 Map puts the stone on the west side of the lane, just to the north of a junction but there is nothing to be seen there; if you turn around where it is meant to be, there is a large lone stone overgrown in the hedgerow exactly opposite!

Many thanks and credit to Baz for pointing out the reference to the stone.

Lord's Stone
Lord's Stone submitted by TimPrevett : The Lord's Stone - a mark upon it is allegedly that of the Devil. Having cleared undergrowth, at the rear of the stone, there is a deep mark resembling a cloven hoof. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Lord's Stone
Lord's Stone submitted by TimPrevett : On the Shropshire Meet 2005, the recently rediscovered Lord's Stone, formerly known as The Devil's Stone (due to a mark on it allegedly being the Devil's footprint), receives a little vegetation clearance. The light was not good, so a flash was used. It was raining lightly, but something flared going up, not down! Also pleased to capture the luminescence of a lichen on the underside of the sto... Lord's Stone
Lord's Stone submitted by TimPrevett : Can you see anything that might resemble the Devil's footprint here? Folklore records there is - but I was not able to clean the loose debris from the surface of the stone. See main entry for more details - click on blue text next to picture for more info. Lord's Stone
Lord's Stone submitted by TimPrevett : How one might find the Lord's Stone - overgrown, and unnoticeable when driving past with no attention to the hedgerows. See main entry for more details - click on blue text next to picture for more info.

Shortly after visiting here this morning, taking the pictures and spending some time with the stone, I set off further down the road to take what I hoped would be a shortcut. The footpaths became confused and uncertain (so did I), and I ended up having to cut across fields to get my bearings again. As I got halfway across one field, some calves with mums blocked my exit. Poo. They moved out of the way, so giving them a wide berth I proceeded. I met the boundary in front - electric fence, barbed wire, another electric fence. At which point said herd charged me... my flee instinct took over - hastily under fence 1, over fence 2, gashing hand on the the barbs, under fence 3, all with a 60 litre rucksack on! Then as my adrenalin wore off, I twisted my ankle bad... still waiting to see what it will be like in the morning! Oh the joys of stonehunting...
