St Patrick's Well (Bromborough) submitted by TimPrevett : Minus flash, into St Patrick's Well, Bromborough. A dense canopy of trees, and situation beneath a drop from Spital Rd make this a very light-starved situation. Not the most welcoming of wells at first glance. I did find sitting right next to the water on the log at the front very good though. Strong smell of earth, leafmould and moist rocks always very pleasant, in my opinion. At last I visited St Patrick's well in June 2021. As you turn into the public car park for Brotherton Park, there is a public footpath on your righthand side (there are 3 footpaths, this one is the first and nearest the entrance to the car park).

The footpath goes downhill, follow it as it bends left. You will pass a sandstone cliff on your left. At the bottom of the hill is a small wooden bridge on your right - cross over and the well is there to your left. There is a bench to sit on.

The well is only approx 10 mins walk from the car park. Take care when wet as the ground can be slippery. Beautiful and quiet, lots of birdsong and plenty of picnic areas/walks in the main park. There is a visitor centre apparently with public toilets, but not always open unless a ranger is on duty. Nearest facilities otherwise are in the Croft Retail park, 5 mins up the road.

Heading north out of Bromborough you'll need to turn left over a small bridge for Brotherton Park and Dibbinsdale Nature Reserve. A couple secluded parking areas are there. Watch your valuables, as anywhere. St Patrick's Well is beneath the drop from Spital Road, about 5 minutes' walk from parking by the most direct route.

In Bromborough, there are references to a Petrifying Well, still extant, but I can't locate exact details for it; also St Chad had a well here, but that is now beneath factories.
