Liverpool Museum - Disappointing for Prehistory by TimPrevett on Thursday, 28 August 2008
(User Info | Send a Message)
Visited yesterday, and there's not one part of British Prehistory on show here now. Rebranded "World Museum Liverpool", the British section starts with a few statues of the Romans, with not even a mention of the Native British even as a necessary prerequisite for something to conquer. Enormously disappointing with The Calderstones just 6.6 km SE. The rest of the museum is superb, don't get me wrong - but for British Prehistoric Culture to be ignored in the European Capital of Culture 2008 is a very unfortunate omission.

As of January 2004, there is no British pre-history on display due to works at the Museum; if you want to visit just for the pre-history, phone in advance, and check details on their website. Otherwise, there is plenty to see, and we as family recommend the planetarium. I did pick up an excellent extensive booklet on the Calderstones in the museum shop for 50p!
