Robin Hood's Chair
Robin Hood's Chair submitted by VirtHist : Well, this is the woodland in which it stands. (This is taken from the car park of the Enigma Indian restaurant at Shotatton crossroads, looking northeast. So there's a great view and great food to be had). (Vote or comment on this photo)
Stone Circle in Shropshire This uncertain monument once consisted of a circle of upright stones, but is described as the remains of a cromlech in the Sites and Monuments Record. Also denoted as a possbile barrow, or spoil from the neighbouring quarry. Ordnance Survey reported nothing visibly left in 1977.

Robin Hood's Chair
Robin Hood's Chair submitted by TimPrevett : Most definetly nothing left here, at least obviously! In places, dense tree growth, plenty of bracken, certainly some mounds - but impossible to tell. A precipitous drop into a quarry to the south east lends credence that the mounds that are there are due to quarry spoil, and nothing ancient. This is one of seven locations for possible Shropshire stone circles, besides the two known circles.... (2 comments - Vote or comment on this photo)

Managed to get into Pastscape at last... among other things, it does definetly list this in the designation as "Bronze Age Stone Circle", with the grid reference as my comment last November.

What was the source for Tom's posting on this? The multimap reference here has changed since I posted the details last November, which has confused me. I might be able to check this out within a couple weeks.

Grid Ref SJ 377233 in wooded area, on Grug Hill, in what appears to be the grounds of Ruyton Manor.

www.pastscape.org lists it as a "Site of Stone Circle Mounds", sounds like a possible embanked circle, but also described as 'quarry upcast' and 'mediaeval (and post-mediaeval) spoil heap'.

One to explore with permission from the landowner, methinks, though there is a public footpath intersecting the hill.
