Arthuret Church cross
Arthuret Church cross submitted by Antonine : The church of St Michael and All Angels dates from 1150. The current building dates from 1609. Archie Armstrong, Court Jester to James I and Charles I, is buried in the churchyard. Merlin Sylvestris (of the woods) lived in exile in the wilds of Upper Tweedale, following the defeat of his chief Gwendoleu at the battle of Arthuret in 573. (Vote or comment on this photo)
