Rock Art in East Lothian

This now lost cup and ring marked stone with concentric rings is recorded as Canmore ID 54771. In 1924, an entry says: "In a rockery bordering the lawn north of Leaston House is a slab of freestone 2'5" high, 1'9" wide and 6 1/2" thick, bearing five concentric rings, the largest being 1'3" in diameter." By 1975, "the stone could not be located. The new tenant could provide no information."

The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) also features a page for this stone - see their entry for Leaston House, Humbie, East Lothian, which includes a diagram of the lost carving, together with a copy of the only known photograph of the stone and motifs.

TNA adds: "This lost Leaston Hall carving was probably 'acquired' by some local and probably rests either in their garden or hall somewhere.  If anyone knows where it hides, please tell us — as this is an important carving."

Note: Do you know of the current location of this rock art stone? Or do you have any drawings, information or photographs to add?
