Earls Hill Camp
Earls Hill Camp submitted by w650marion : Looking at the flat top upper enclosure from the edge of the lower enclosure. “Its size would suggest that it was occupied by a large community where particular centralised economic and social activities were practiced”. Thinking about the work involved in the building of the ramparts, when it’s such a steep walk up here! (Vote or comment on this photo)

Earls Hill Camp
Earls Hill Camp submitted by TimPrevett : Find a hill in Shropshire, and it likely has a hillfort upon it! In this picture are two hillforts - Earl's Hill Camp (a rampart can be seen upon the right hand side of the top hill), and Pontesford Hill hillfort, covered by trees now. Taken on the move on the A488 looking south.

Earls Hill Camp
Earls Hill Camp submitted by w650marion : The cross dyke below Earls Hill Camp - you can see top left the ramparts of the hillfort above. A significant monument in its own right, the importance of the cross dyke on Pontesford Hill is enhanced by its proximity to, and probable association with, the hillfort on Earl's Hill. Earls Hill Camp
Earls Hill Camp submitted by w650marion : They kept modifying the ramparts here. It's a long steep walk back to the car park, I think I'll take the circular route to the left, rather than chance the direct route down through gate and trees!

Historic England link-

https://historicengland.org.uk/listing/the-list/list-entry/1020152

It calls it: Earl's Hill Camp: a small multivallate hillfort and an adjacent cross dyke on Pontesford Hill

After climbing to the top, it doesn’t feel like a “small” hillfort to me! More details- http://search.shropshirehistory.org.uk/collections/getrecord/CCS_MSA763/

Earl's Hill Camp hillfort occupies the bare spinal summit of Earl's Hill, as a long enclosure running from the north to the south east. Access from the car park is via a very steep and slippery route directly south of Pontesford Hill Camp fort. Alternatively, a longer circular route anticlockwise along the woodland path will take you there.
It is still a steep climb up the grassy path to the main entrance on the north, which curves inwards, and this was modified several times during the occupation of the fort. The interior and defensive banks and ditches were also modified - the original hillfort enclosed the whole area and encircling ramparts can be clearly seen to the south, but then the interior of the fort was remodeled and divided into two parts, separating the more rocky higher northern part.
There are extensive 360degree views all around from the highest part, well worth the climb up.
