Round Barrow(s) in Lancashire

I have found no other record of this probable barrow. The location is first rate being on top of a drumlin with views across much of the north of Morecambe Bay. (In the summer of 2016 a previously unidentified complete barrow was excavated on top of another drumlin outside a nearby village).

I recommend visitors park near to 54.126701, -2.785876 and follow the public footpath eastward before turning north and straight up through the long narrow north-south field.

You will notice the very large mainly limestone rocks which form many of the quite possibly Iron Age field boundaries on the hill.

Hunting Hill
Hunting Hill submitted by SumDoood : It caught my eye. It's limestone, about 0.9m x 0.6m and lies in a hedge bottom in the first boundary wall on the south side of the hilltop. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Hunting Hill
Hunting Hill submitted by SumDoood : This is the north side of Hunting Hill. I can't help but wonder to what extent the flat ground here has been levelled (and by whom), and whether or not the slope to the barrow on the top might be partly artificial. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Hunting Hill
Hunting Hill submitted by SumDoood : This is the north side of Hunting Hill. The hill to the right is Warton Crag (with its hillfort). I can't help but wonder to what extent the flat ground here has been levelled (and by whom), and whether or not the slope to the left (which leads to the barrow on the top), might be partly artificial. Hunting Hill
Hunting Hill submitted by SumDoood : The barrow is the high point on the right. The wall wants to trick you into thinking it might have been part of a passage grave, but it is, I think, one of the many Neolithic-type field boundaries which are quite common in this limestone land between Lancaster/Morecambe and the south central edge of Cumbria. Hunting Hill submitted by SumDoood : The top towards the SW

Hunting Hill
Hunting Hill submitted by SumDoood : On the top of the hill is this feature which I think is a long ago, carelessly, and neglectfully excavated round barrow.
