Ancient Cross in Shropshire

The High Cross, Shrewsbury, Shropshire features on The Northern Antiquarian (TNA) website, which gives us a brief archaeology & history for this "long-lost medieval ornamented cross, found not far from the legendary Grope Cunt Lane (I kid you not) (which) was located close to the middle of old Shrewsbury town, 'at the junction of Pride Hill, Castle St and St. Mary’s St,' according to the 1902 OS-map of the region."

Pastscape Monument No. 68257 also has a record for this site, saying: "High Cross was a mediaeval cross which stood in the centre of the street at the top of Pride Hill, and was commonly used as a place of assembly and for executions, including the execution of David III of Wales in 1283. It was demolished in 1683 ... A modern cross occupies the site of High Cross. A nearby plaque states that High Cross was taken down in 1687."
