Ancient Village or Settlement in Herefordshire

A site believed to be Iron Age or Romano-British. Estimated dates from 500BCE to 400CE.

In a part of the old Saxon Deer Forest of Haye Wood, which with Mocktree, Deerfold and Bringewood now form the Mortimer Forest. The forest is Forestry Commission with well marked trails. The Black Pool Loop walk crosses the site.

There is a clearly defined ditch.

Current thinking seems to tend towards this being a mediaeval site, maybe 14th century. It is considered to be a moated enclosure which possibly contained a deer park keeper's house.

Of course, this theory may change yet again in the future!
