Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Somerset

An interesting well set behind a Forester's Arms public house suggesting the great antiquity of this Inn, and was probably built upon a hostile for pilgrims, who came to drink from the spring. This spring flows through a pipe into a roughly square-rectangular stone lined pool with some large dressed and squared stones, which as antiquarian Horne (1923) postulates may have consisted of a building over the well. There appears to be little recorded legend, history or power of this spring although as Horne discovered it was good for making tea.

30 October 2008 - looking sadly neglected. A wooden fence has been erected preventing access, although somebody has made a hole in the fence through which you can see the well. Broken toys and rubbish stacked around the edge.
