xseawitch visited on 18th Nov 2018 - their rating: Cond: 3 Access: 5 The cross is inside the church, now in one piece, but not very impressive, I'm afraid. The church and circular graveyard are pretty though and worth seeing.
Jansold visited on 3rd Mar 2016 - their rating: Cond: 2 Amb: 3 Access: 5 Originally discovered in the church walls during the 1880 restoration works of the church, the cross was dowelled together in 2008 by the CADW works at Tintern

The two sections have been placed upon a windowsill. The top part, although lying down, has a distinct half wheel-head together with two-bird like symbols in plates at either side and interlacing. The second fragment has more interlacing and bird-like symbols.
According to the legend, St Arfan or Arveyn, who established the first church on this site was a hermit sometime between the 6th and 9th century. He drowned while fishing for salmon in his coracle, in the River Wye. The churchyard is circular in shape, indicating a pre-Christian site. A church certainly existed here in the 10th century, but the present building is much more recent.
