Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Herefordshire

Associated close to an Iron age site, this spring is said to be particularly good for eyes. It arises in a mediaeval stone pool. The first sample of water taken from it on twelfth night is said to be the best and local people would compete for it. It is also said to produce a blue haze. It is a delightful site found in a small copse, it is just off the path and the farmer was happy to let me examine it.

St Ann's Well (Aconbury) submitted by 4clydesdale7 : This Well is in a lovely spot just under and east of Aconbury Camp - unfortunately it is now seriously overgrown and needs 'a short back and sides'. Lots of Deer in the vicinity. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Re: St Ann's Well (Aconbury) by Anonymous on Saturday, 05 April 2008
This is a well whose atmosphere persists despite the intrusions of modern (and very ugly) hydrological equipment. On the day we visited, it was just possible to see the spring bubbling up inside, albeit at a very low level. Perhaps it has been affected by the aforementioned drainage equipment.
