WiganArchSoc visited on 27th Sep 2015 - their rating: Cond: 5 Amb: 4 Access: 4 The Hic Bibi headstone was erected in 1997 by CREWS - Campaign for the Restoration of the Wells of Standish after receiving funds from such groups as the Wigan Archaeological Society. It marks the spot n an ancient and locally celebrated well which was seemingly destroyed by sand quarrying, though the spring seems to have surfaced again near by. There is a legend that Oliver Cromwell stopped to drink from the well a he chased the Scots though Wigan after the battle of Preston.

The Roman Road from Ribchester (Bremetennacum) to Wigan (Coccium) runs very close by. I believe a part was excavated in the mid 80's, in the field next to Coppull Moor Lane at the junction with Hic-Bibi Lane...

This is located at Standish Nearest Town ( 2 miles to NW) in Lancashire not Broughton, also 5 miles N of Wigan
