Hillfort in Herefordshire

Oddly there is a 'chasm' in the protruding rock at the centre of the enclosure. It must be at least 8 foot deep you certainly would not wnat to slip over the edge of it. There are areas of cliff inside the enclosure too.

Backbury
Backbury submitted by byll : The Chasm in the rock at the top of the hill. The picture does not do it justice. A volunteer to jump down ito it for scale would have been useful (Vote or comment on this photo)

Backbury
Backbury submitted by jfarrar : The path shows an outer rampart, then to the left a ditch then the main rampart. Like many Herefordshire hill-forts the whole area is covered with thick woodland and undergrowth. It is near impossible to work out where the fort is on the ground. (Vote or comment on this photo)

Backbury
Backbury submitted by jfarrar : Another view of the "chasm". It runs along the top of the hill-fort and then meets a near vertical drop down the hillside. (1 comment - Vote or comment on this photo)
