Standing Stone in Fife

This stands by Crail Parish Kirk. It is one of three " Blue Stanes " in Fife, another is at Balcomie beach, a short drive from here. Another is in St Andrews. The two in the Crail area are said to have been one thrown by the Devil from the Isle of May ,but it split in half. There is an indentation on the side of the Stone, this is the Devil's thumb print.

Update August 2017: This stone is also described on The Northern Antiquarian's page for Devil’s Blue Stane, Crail, Fife which quotes from Polson's 1932 survey of witch-lore.

Devil's Blue Stane
Devil's Blue Stane submitted by DrewParsons : I visited this site on my way from St Andrews to Edinburgh on the coastal road. Crail is a pleasant small town to visit. The stone is right by the side of a building just off the road in front of the church. September 2013. (Vote or comment on this photo)

The Devil's Blue Stane
The Devil's Blue Stane submitted by Nick : This spectacularly dull stone is included only out of completeness. It stands outside the parish kirk of the little fishing town of Crail, which in itself is worth a visit, but I wouldn't do it just for this stone. It has a story, however, and that's why it's here. According to local author Bruce Durie, in his recent book 'Kirkcaldy and East Fife', the stone is: "A rock hurled by the Devil when...
