Long Stone Cross submitted by TimPrevett : Grid Ref: SJ599677 When visiting a specialist herb nursery, I couldn't help but notice a Long Stone (remains) marked on the map on Longstone Lane, just around the corner, back from a fork on the lane. What remains is a severed stump, set in what looks like sandstone blocks. Not hugely impressive, and reminded me of the base used for saxon crosses in the county - nonetheless, it must have once been... (Vote or comment on this photo)

The easiest way to find this site is to take the turning for the Cheshire Polo Club off the A49 near Cabbage Hall (a gastronome pub) - the Cheshire Herbs which Just3Days refers to above is no longer there. You will then find it on the right, just before the junction with Shay Lane.

I wonder if there was something else along this lane, again on the right, just after passing the gate for the Polo Club. There seems to be a Sandstone Base on which another stone is placed, that has a hollowed top face to it - At first I thought that was the old cross.

This is a medieval wayside cross and almost certainly post-Norman
