In his book The Archaeology of the County of Somerset published in 1931, D.P.Dobson refers to a number of isolated stones in the Bristol area which may or may not represent the remains of chambered tombs. These include one in the gardens of a house in Armoury Square in the middle of the city itself.
According to Dobson this stone, located ‘in a cottage garden’ was mentioned in 1825 by Seyer in his Memoirs of Bristol who says that it originally had a companion across the road, and was much larger than at present.
