Marked as an Obelisk on the current OS Explorer Map OL14 this Stone Pillar marks the former position of the Marker Stone at the centre of the Forest of Dean - it lies just across the road (to the N) from The Speech House on the B4226 Cinderford to Coleford road

Alfred Watkins of 'leyline fame' suggested this stone lay on a leyline ending at the Hermitage near Courtfield at Lower Lydbrook; the Speech House was the Courthouse for the Verderers of the Forest of Dean in the 17th century but now is a prosperous hotel
