Standing Stone (Menhir) in Dorset

3.5 feet tall stone adjacent the road, north west from Cerne Abbas, with its own enclosure. Blink as you drive past and you'd miss it.

Of unknown provenance. To me it looks like part of a cross shaft or a damaged sundial base. It's still being venerated, coins and crystals left atop the flatter part of the stone. Referred to by Thomas Hardy.

Its north face has an indentation in it which could be seen as a hand shape. Some see phallic inference in its bulbous upper part.

Have given it a good ambience. While it has a road on one side and a field on the other, it has good views and a pleasing feel.

For finding this stone, the source was Peter Knight's "Ancient Stones of Dorset".
