Round Barrow in Cheshire

Very little is known about this barrow, but an unknown author in a reference in the Bodlean Library records that circa 1661 the tumulus of Robin Hoods Butts contained ‘the armes of a man in an upright posture’.

Its actually quite pronounced to the naked eye at the location. Viewed looking west October 2017 (Vote or comment on this photo)

Robin Hoods Butts 1
Robin Hoods Butts 1 submitted by johndhunter : Round Barrow at NZ 71212 11406 one of four known as Robin Hoods Butts - low lying and pretty nondescript, looking not much different from the rest of the undulating ground in this area. Its blending in with the rest of the vegetation so I have outlined it with the yellow oval. Whilst nondescript in itself it is also believed not to have been excavated. So who knows maybe there is something worthw... (Vote or comment on this photo)

Robin Hoods Butts 1
Robin Hoods Butts 1 submitted by johndhunter : Round Barrow at NZ 71212 11406 one of four known as Robin Hoods Butts – Very low lying and hardly worth bothering with a photograph as its hard to make out with a 2 dimensional camera. Still for what its worth hear it is outlined by the yellow oval with the walking stick in its centre . Viewed looking southerly, October 2017

There are also 2 barrows of this name in Shropshire, on the Long Mynd SO431966; I believe they are ploughed out to a degree, with one being interescted by a possible prehistoric field boundary.
