Intrigued by all this as grew up round the corner from Cuckoo Hall, a farmhouse I'm pretty sure has since been demolished. The grid reference given is more or less that of 'The Tank', a disused water header tank used as a viewpoint which dominated the skyline, being on the highest point on the ridge, now also demolished. Was this constructed on top of the tumulus?
Holed menhir at Cuckoo Hall?? Suspect I might have noticed it had there been one. Common in the area were gate posts with holes bored through them to take removable wooden barriers, which seems a more likely explanation, though would like to be proved wrong!
