Spiderdrone visited on 8th Oct 2023 - their rating: Cond: 3 Amb: 4 Access: 4 As you can't get too close the knoll, I took some aerial photos of the area. I picked this up on route to the well by the church.

TheCaptain saw from a distance on 7th Aug 2020 Seen up on the top of the Cotswold Edge during a hot and humid Friday afternoon 11k walk, north from Hawkesbury Upton to the monument, then down the Cotswold Edge to Inglestone Common, south to Hawkesbury Common and on to Horton Court before going back up the Cotswold Edge and along the Cotswold Way andd "Yellow Brick Road" to Hawkesbury and a pint at the Beaufort Arms afterwards.

This fantastically situated long barrow with possible Chambered Tomb sits on the top of Hawkesbury Knoll, right on the edge of the steep Cotswold scarp, with splendid views west over the Vale of Berkeley, and the River Severn to the Forest of Dean and Wales.

It is aligned in a north to south direction, is probably a couple of metres in height, and has a very rocky consistency. A large amount of the northern end has been quarried away.

Unclear on the Environment Agency lidar (grey icon next to that for CamRA) except for several pits. Very good agricultural terracing on escarpment

This fantastically situated long barrow sits on the top of Hawkesbury Knoll, right on the edge of the steep Cotswold scarp, with splendid views west over the Vale of Berkeley, and the River Severn to the Forest of Dean and Wales. It is aligned in a north to south direction, is probably a couple of metres in height, and has a very rocky consistency. A large amount of the northern end has been quarried away.

Although no footpath leads to it, clear views can be had from the Somerset Monument looking down towards the knoll, or from the vale of Berkeley below. When I visited a couple of days ago, I parked at the monument, and saw that the two fields between the knoll; and myself were both probably used for horses or cattle, and were both empty, and indeed with many of the gates open, so I thought it would be OK to walk out to the knoll itself.

The knoll is obviously used by some for barbeques, and many fires have obviously been had atop the barrow. This has burned off the grass and nettles from the top, leaving bare rock below. This barrow is obviously made largely from stone and rock. I could determine no evidence of any chambers though.
