Stone Circle in Aberdeenshire

This appears on the 1:25,000 as a ruined Stone Circle but that is almost an understatement. Certainly you have to know what you are looking for before you go.

Lying prostrate and incorporated into the outside of the south wall of the churchyard are two long thin stone - about nine feet long by two feet thick. presumably the flankers. Even worst the wall has been partly re-aligned so only one of the stones is now clearly visible - a corner of the other can be seen in the bend of the wall.

Kinellar Churchyard
Kinellar Churchyard submitted by Tyrebagger : These stones are approx 150m to the E of the Kirkyard and stand in front of a house, just off the road. I cannot find any record of them being prehistoric, but they have the look of circle stones. Discard, found & re-erected? A modern addition? Please lte me know if you know. Ruined certainly, but its a good feeling to find & view these stones, and to appreciate them for what they were. Set high on a ridge, it is obvious why this site was chosen for the circle.

Access is easy, and the stones are easily found: Enter the Kirkyard through the gate, and walk to the right. Where the wall doglegs, the top of one stone is visible, and a few feet away adjacent to the large monument to the Stephen family, the other is visible. Hop over the wall for a full view.
