The spring flows through a series of seven (a magical, mystical and folkloric number!) drinking troughs.

The spring issues from a cleft in the rock behind a locked grating, and then pours into a series of seven troughs, or trows as they are known. The water is clear and cool, with a a good strong flow. I've drunk from it quite happily. The water once supplied the village of Turleigh, and apparently the trows were used for wool trade work. The site is overhung with trees, and although the road passes close by, there is a certain ambience. A larger kerb stone rests by the springhead. Well worth a visit.

A beautiful spot shaded by trees apparently used by local weavers for wool washing when this part of Wiltshire was the centre of the wool trade in the 1800s.the small stream runs on under houses to a mill pond and then down across the fields under the road and railway and into the river Avon.
