The Devil's Bed and Bolster
The Devil's Bed and Bolster submitted by JimChampion : In the foreground are the stones that presumably formed part of the end chamber in the tomb. Beyond are the stones at the entrance. The cut logs show that there has been some clearance of woody plants from the remains of the barrow mound. Signs on a nearby fencepost indicate that this barrow is alongside a 'conservation walk' - a phrase usually used for a permissive path around an area of natural/... (Vote or comment on this photo)
Long Mound with Chambered Tomb in Somerset. The wonderfully named Devil's Bed and Bolster comprises a badly disturbed long mound littered with more than 20 sarsen stones and some 8 or 9 stones forming possibly 2 or 3 chambers which are still in situ.

To find: Take the A361 to Rode from Frome. On the left past the church is a pub callewd the Bell Inn.Opposite is a public footpath, make your way to the copse at the top of the hill, when you get there go to the next copse and in there is the site. Worth the visit.

......Not easy to find as i was following conflicting directions.....With permission, you can park at the Bell Inn, directly across the road is a footpath, follow it until you reach a field, turn right and follow the field boundary until you come to a gap between fields, go through the gap and keep left, you will soon come to another large gap, go through and follow the field boundary to the left. There are a few 'hidden corners but you will soon see it in the field corner....

My Great Grandmother lived nearby and always said that in addition to the chambers there was a tunnel running to a nearby farmhouse - could this be true?

Go again, just don't take your brother!A lot of these sites have(I think)neutral energy going through them and sometimes react to your state of mind.I always approach them with reverance,in a state of calmness.Last week was my first time there and I really chilled out.(even though I took the wrong path and ended up trekking across about 8 fields to get there.

From SYB Wicks, A.T 1933 "Barrow Lore", Attempts to move or disturb the stones are said to be foiled by bad weather.
