The Bacup Natural History Society Museum (N.A.T.S) is located at 24 Yorkshire street close to Bacup town centre. Go up Yorkshire street (Todmorden Road) the A681. The museum stands beside the road next to a heritage garden.
Run by volunteers, it houses collections of dometic, industrial, religious and military artefacts. [What is not generally known is that there is a small collection of Neolithic to Bronze-Age arrow-heads and flints from the Tooter Hill prehistoric settlement near Bacup]. Some 4,000 photographs and 2,000 old books covering old Bacup can also be seen in the museum.
As it is run by volunteers the museum is only open on Thursday evenings from 7.30 pm. Free admission. Donations welcome. Everybody welcome. Winter lectures are held here from Oct - March every other Saturday evening at 7 pm - everybody is welcome.

Next to the museum there is a heritage garden with a number of local curiousities built into the walls, including a possible Celtic stone head ? an animal head, and a rare, very large large manually operated millstone cum corn grinder. Worth having a look round the little garden.
