Promontory Fort / Cliff Castle in Lancashire

Possible prehistoric or medieval bank and ditch cutting off a promontory, surviving as degraded earthworks and identified from GoogleEarth by a local amateur enthusias Stuart Mendelson. The bank underlies a dilapidated drystone wall likely to be of 18th or early 19th century origin and a gate through the wall may coincide with a way through the earthwork. The bank is straight, standing up to 0.6m high with a basal width of around 6m. There may have been ditches on both sides, but post-medieval ploughing up to the edge of the bank has degraded and distorted their original form.
