This deteriorating 1.4 metre high closed chambered mound has a steep profile and a triangular shape and is partly mutilated by a lane on one side. The interior chamber measures 3.6m by 1.3m with a 12 ton capstone of roughly the same size. 4 slabs form the walls which were originally covered by 2 long stones at the eastern end and a lintel at the western end. Under the weight of the capstone these walls have moved significantly out of true. The chamber is now silted up.
The chamber was originally excavated in 1911 when, apparently, a burial of a horse was found with its head resting on a pile of stones and a man with his head resting on the horse's neck. However, doubt has been cast on this description as the horse's teeth have recently been found to be modern.
