Holy Well or Sacred Spring in Wiltshire

The current building was erected by the nuns of nearby Lacock Abbey to protect the spring. The water was piped along a conduit to the convent. It is lovely, situated opposite a fascinating country church. Unfortunately, the doors to both are generally locked.

This is a grade II* listed building important because of its association with Lacock Abbey and as a grouping with the church of St. Anne across the road.

I have spoken to helpful staff at the Abbey, unfortunately knowledge of the conduit seems to have been lost there and all they could find out is that Conduit House is not used as a water source and has not been for probably 25 or 30 years. The Abbey runs on mains water these days.

For further information see the Historic England page here.
