The King and Queen Stones
The King and Queen Stones submitted by HarryTwenty : King and Queen stones on Bredon Hill in the winter sun. The light has picked out a face at the bottom of the stone on the right. The stones are originally thought to be the remains of a collapsed long barrow. (Vote or comment on this photo)
The King and Queen Stones lie on the southwestern slopes of Bredon Hill. It is thought that the stones are the remains of a collapsed long barrow.

Local legend tells that if you pass between them you will be cured of illness.

Irritating indeed not to be able to reach the stones from the footpath running close by - the barbed-wire fence is quite a serious one.
'Health and safety' as they are close to something of a precipice, or just an officious local landowner?

There is of course no likelihood of the stones being anything other than natural formations, a consequence of 'gulling' in the oolitic limestone, like the Bambury Stone on top of the hill. However, they were important locally as the site of the Court Leet of Bredon until the middle of the C19th (when the stones would be whitewashed each year). There is also the folklore aspect - supposedly healing properties if passed between. So sad that they have to be fenced off.

Re: The King and Queen Stones by Anonymous on Sunday, 18 September 2022
I've visited a few times over the years. The stones are off the main path, screened by trees, down a steep bank (very slippery after rain) by one of two minor paths. On a visit today, 18th September 2022, I found that access to the stones had been denied by a new galvanized fence, with no sign of any style to allow access. Furthermore, the large branches from tree cutting that seems to have been associated with the erection of the new fence, have been dumped so as to block one of the paths down to the stones (the shorter and more easily used). Meaning, that even if you should try to clamber down over the fence you would have to use the longer and more slippery path. A real shame as it's quite an atmospheric site.

I tried visiting but could not find these stones! They are hidden off the path somewhere? I used the grid location to no avail.
