This cairn is easy to spot given the trig point, and the two paths which intersect at the trig point. It appears very much to be a cairn, the top is prominent, and it appears in MAGIC, but you could forgive anyone for thinking its a pile of stones. Cairns are easily dispersed when paths cross them.
Further, it used to have a wall across the top which hasn't helped. Most importantly, you can see for miles and miles. West across Manchester and into Wales. East up the Longdendale valley. And south to Kinderlow End and Castle Naze.
Park at the layby by the old quarry which is now used for climbing and head directly north. About 1km from the road there is a small gate which takes you down and west over a narrow bridge then onto a very good path which leads directly to the cairn. The path isn't shown on the map!
