Afflington Barrow submitted by JimChampion : Looking at the Afflington Barrow from the Purbeck Way to the west. (Vote or comment on this photo)
The Afflington Barrow is a bronze age bowl barrow about 22 metres in diameter and nearly 2 metres in height. Its surrounding ditch has become infilled.

The barrow was partially excavated in 1855 and some of the finds are in the Dorset County Museum in Dorchester. It contained a primary cremation, along with a crouched inhumation burial and nine extended inhumations which were arranged in parallel rows. Five of the graves were stone lined, two contained double burials and one contained a bronze finger ring. [Information from English Heritage's PastScape website]

Access The barrow is on private farmland above Coombe Bottom and can clearly be seen from the Purbeck Way footpath about 100 metres west of the site.
