Elmley Castle
Elmley Castle submitted by HarryTwenty : Norman ring ditch on the left, southern ramparts on the right. (Vote or comment on this photo)
In addition to being a hill fort this is also the site of the Norman castle from which the nearby village takes its name. The castle incorporated part of the fort in its own defences. There is now nothing left of the castle apart from the banks, the stone was robbed out a long time ago. Essentially everything inside the inner ditch is Norman/medieval, the Iron Age ramparts are outside.

In addition to being a hill fort this is also the site of the Norman castle from which the nearby village takes its name. The castle incorporated part of the hill fort in its own defenses. The book "The Castle at Elmley" is available by contacting aberic@v21.me.uk.
