Stone Circle in Staffordshire
I have never found any reference to this place other than in the book 'the Story of Bloxwich' by EJ Homeshaw.
The stones were moved during open cast operations after WW2.
I remember seeing them in the ditch along Gorsey Lane when I was a child but they were completely removed during the construction of a housing estate.
There is a photograph of such in a pamphlet I have somewhere in my possession.
The field at the top of the hill at the junction of Gorsey Lane with Holly Lane is where the stones stood.
On older OS maps a 'monument' slightly to the west of the grid ref. I have given is shown.
From this hill Castle Old fort near Brownhills would have been visible as would Castle ring on Cannock Chase.
On some old maps the field is known as 'the fighting grounds'.
Holly Lane deviated from a straight course to go around these stones and it's route remains to show of their existence.
The site is at the top of a south facing slope.
